Bay Of Plenty is a norwegian rock band based in Oslo. The five-piece consisting of Kristian Lid (vocals, guitar), Jan Abild (guitar), Sveinung Fjermestad (bass), Øyvind Hodneland (drums), and Lars Ole Søvde (keys) chose a band name that is constantly begging for a fresh and innovative sound. Drawing on elements from modern and alternative rock, as well as from the world of synthesizers and electronic pop, Bay Of Plenty invites people into their own unique dream landscape of energetic rock. Their first official release was their self-titled EP that saw the light of day in June 2011. In November the same year the band went into the studio again, this time in Northern Ireland with producer Tre Sheppard, to record a new single. In February 2012, Take Heart was released, and it immediately entered #1 on the iTunes Norwegian rock chart.

Biography

Bay Of Plenty started up as a collaboration between Jan Abild (guitar) and Lars Ole Søvde (keys) the fall 2007. After a few sessions of experimenting with different expressions and genres, the group settled as a rock/blues act when drummer Øyvind Hodneland joined in. Bassist Sveinung Fjermestad became a part of the band after an early studio recording of the song Realized (second track on the debut EP from 2011) in 2009. Fjermestad who was more influenced by alternative rock, added new elements to the existing sound. The current line-up was completed in 2010, when vocalist Kristian Lid took on the singing duties, and the blues elements were replaced by a more modern rock sound.

The band’s first official recording was done with Håvard Træthaug in Crystal Studios in Oslo December 2010 - January 2011. A self-titled debut EP was then released with a concert at Café Kaos in Oslo June 2011.
After playing a concert in Stavanger summer 2011, the band met with manager Philip Simpson from Fersk Management (UK) who arranged for them an opportunity to come to Northern Ireland to record a new single. The single Take Heart was recorded with producer Tre Sheppard, and released with a concert at Revolver (Oslo) February 2012. The new track entered #1 on the iTunes Norwegian rock chart.
